Concrete Masonry Ideal for "Green" Projects Like Millennium High Street
Developers behind a new upscale apartment community in Houston's Midtown have earned a top LEED® certification for their project. One aspect of the property's "green" designation comes from the use of Split-Face Concrete Masonry Units (CMUs).
The Millennium High Street project utilizes split-face units as a key design element for store fronts and the property's street level. The inherently green nature of CMU make the product a logical choice for today's energy-conscious, sustainable designs.
The project, developed by Houston-based The Dinerstein Companies (TDC) has the distinction of being a LEED Gold certified project. According to The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), TDC is of one the largest multi-family builder/developers to use LEED in its planning for future properties.
The USGBC says "The Millennium Apartments is a suite of TDC’s premier green achievements. This series of sustainable luxury apartment buildings all share some spectacular features that are emblematic of TDC’s high-end-with-a-conscience style."
"They are walkable properties with that combine luxury with integrity, like fitness centers and energy-saving utility management systems; resort-style pools and drought-tolerant landscaping; or dog parks and electric car-charging stations."
